Not that long ago politicians (stupidly) mused that #climatechange wouldn’t be so bad for Canada. Now we’re an international poster child for the economic costs even in a wealthy nation and at only 1.1-1.2C. #cdnpoli @nytimes nytimes.com/2023/07/03/bus…
MetroVan has become less dense over the past 20 years. In 2001, 2,074,540 ppl living in the metroVan w urban area 577 sq kilometres; 20 years later, 2,642,825 people live in the area— an additional 568,285. And the urban area grew by 171 square kilometres ici.radio-canada.ca/info/2022/03/e…

I might surprise or infuriate some people with this but after a lotta years in the climate accountability trenches if you’re looking for a single industry to blame for denialism and disinformation it’s the PR industry. And they did it for oil, tobacco, chemicals & food from jump
Science and democracy are strongly interlinked - as they are both built on freedom of speech, independence, facts and transparency. If you don’t respect democracy then you probably won’t respect science. And if you don’t respect science then you probably won’t respect democracy.

This is how it happens. This is how tax cuts result in austerity measures that permanently eat away from the fabric of our society's most crucial services and supports. It was devastating when the BC Liberals did it in the early 2000s; it would be catastrophic during a pandemic.

In light of a weekend protest in Stanley Park and some media appearance by colleagues of mine, I see it fit to quote our PB planner Dave Hutch (and reported by @simonplittle ) : ‘About 93% of SP Drive is open to vehicles, and about 70% of parking in the park remains open.’
MEC was founded here in BC and has been a big part of the lives of British Columbians who love the outdoors. It's sad to see Canada's largest co-op being sold off to a U.S. firm without consulting the millions of members. citynews1130.com/2020/09/15/tho…
@infil00p Absolutely. MEC created a disastrous system that had requirements to be a director set at a massive corporate level, so they only recruited corporate directors, disconnecting themselves from members. They then hired a Best Buy dude as CEO.
In a different life, I worked as a co-op business development manager. Worked with MEC, Vancity, and others. MEC is not a failure of the co-op business model. It's a failure of a board of directors that ignored members and chased profits - rather than meeting members' needs.
I love that the NPA’s definition of “easy access for everyone” actually means reducing access for recreation to allow for slightly increased vehicle flow and parking. 👎

It’s not a good public space, it’s just the only place we haven’t vilified light industrial with larger enough heritage buildings to house creative pursuits. That’s it.
@CityNewsVAN Is it really a year? Late in one year and early in the next year could be a couple of weeks? I remember a time when journalism had integrity.
The Kootenay Crew is fired up about restoration! This winter they burned wood piles from forest thinning at our Wycliffe Wildlife Corridor property. Forest thinning benefits the forest by restoring historical conditions from natural fires, improving habitat for wildlife!

The Liberals lost the right to have passionate people claim “let’s not split the vote!” for them when they promised to end FPTP and didn’t. So vote Anjali. Vote whatever candidate in your riding seems passionate and willing to use their voice against rising populism.
