BREAKING: Airlines will now have to pay you when they mess up. The Department of Transportation has issued a new rule requiring airlines to give you an automatic refund if your flight is canceled or delayed or if they lose your bags. It’s a game changer for U.S. travel.
The DOT is also banning airlines from engaging in junk fee practices. That means no hidden fees. Everything, from baggage, to flight change fees, to cancellation fees must be clearly and fully disclosed up front. No more surprise fees.
@MorePerfectUS Good! We gave these companies $25 billion grants during the pandemic that we are repaying now, not them
@MorePerfectUS Thank you again President Biden! This is such common sense legislation, thank you for finally passing it.
@MorePerfectUS Actually, people always pay. Any fees will be recouped by higher airline ticket costs
@MorePerfectUS This is a really great step towards accountability for customers.
Delayed or lost bags: great. Canceled: should be customer choice of refund OR ticket on ANY airline for similar flight - if you need to get somewhere a refund is better than a credit, but doesn't help you get where you need to go (last minute flight almost guaranteed to cost more).
Think people..... think. If they are required to issue you a full refund for your flight. You no longer posses a "contract of carriage". Which means you can now opt to go to the ticket counter and buy a "new ticket" at "today's prevailing rate". The airlines will have no obligation to rebook you on a later flight, or on another carrier. GO BUY A NEW TICKET
@MorePerfectUS @SenatorHeinrich Yeah, that won't cause the airlines to raise ticket costs to cover those costs. Thanks I guess...
@MorePerfectUS Wow. This is a GAME CHANGER. Personally I'm not a frequent flyer, altho I used to fly quite a bit back in the day 😉 ie 80's & 90's. Passengers are/were completely powerless over commercial Airlines, who are untouchable.
