🇹🇷 Turkey & the Holocaust. Turkey was the only neutral country to implement anti-Jewish laws during WWII. During the war the Turkish government de-naturalized ~5,000 Turkish Jews living in Europe. ~2,500 of them ended up deported to the extermination camps of Auschwitz & Sobibor.
My grand parents survived the Holocaust without a scratch because they lived on the Turkish side of the Greek border. Tens of thousands of Greek Jews weren’t that lucky were they? Some of our family members lived in Marseilles/France with Turkish passports were put in Darcy concentration camp only to be saved by Turkish diplomats before being transferred to Auschwitz and sent back to Turkey.
@HaymiBehar Well, you deny the facts in that tweet? Mind you, everything I write is easily searchable. 😁 Turkey recognized 631 citizenship's, in 1943. The other side of the Turkish border, i.e. occupied Greece.. was Third Reich territory. You're giving my Turkish pets a glimpse of hope. 😊
@HaymiBehar @Reaping1821 Were they in Edirne?
@HaymiBehar @Reaping1821 Greek government was exiled in Cairo and controlled zero of Greek territories. This is German-Italian-Bulgarian-Albanian policy who controlled various regions around Greece and killed nearly half a million Greeks(out of 7 million population) during the 3 years of occupation.
@HaymiBehar @Reaping1821 Didn't they suffer from the Varlik Vergisi?
@HaymiBehar @Reaping1821 The Greeks, one of the most antisemitic societies at that time, teach us moral lessons. Even when they were under Nazi occupation, the heads of state was openly Nazi fans.
